What audience research means here
It is collecting data on people who have already shown interest in your topic: they post about the keywords you care about, they reply in the relevant threads, they argue under other people's posts. What you get is a list of profiles with a signal of recent activity attached — not a dump of somebody's followers.
Activity beats following
Threads ranks the feed by conversation. Someone who followed a competitor eight months ago and has not opened the app since is worth almost nothing to you. Someone who replied to a post on your topic this morning is a real prospect. Recency is the signal that matters, and it is the one a follower export cannot give you.
Reading the discussion
